Application
Always try the technique on a test piece before embarking on the project to ensure you are happy with the finished results.
- Apply a matt emulsion/latex as a base coat, this will be the colour of the cracks.
- Allow the base coat to dry.
- Apply the glaze in one direction with a good quality brush.
- Ensure to apply a smooth and even coat, if not remove the glaze with a damp cloth and reapply.
- Allow to dry.
- Apply a top coat of a matt emulsion/latex thinned with 10% water.
- Load a good quality brush with generous amounts of paint and apply in one pass.
- Apply at right angles to the crackle glaze coat.
- The thickness of the top coat will determine the size of the cracks. Do not over brush as this will cause the glaze and paint to mix and no cracks will appear.
- Leave to dry for 24 hours and protect with Polyvine Decorators Varnish.
Always follow the manufacturer's instructions found on the container.
